Kartell have updated the material used in production of its designs. Aimed at achieving a low environmental impact while maintaining the quality and beauty on which the value of ‘made in Italy’ is based.
Polycarbonate 2.0 is a hallmark of the brand, for which Kartell has exclusive rights. It is a certified renewable material, resistant and easily recyclable. Used in the production of our best-loved products, such as the Ghost line of chairs or the Bourgie lamps.
The material combines a second generation renewable polymer made from cellulose and paper waste with an ISCC (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) certified process. ISCC was one of the first schemes for the sustainability of products throughout the supply chain in the renewable energy sector to be issued at European level and it is now one of the most popular and widely recognised. The benefits of polycarbonate, such as superior shock resistance and flame retardant properties, elasticity, excellent mechanical properties and easy recycling are retained in 2.0.

Bio is a certified material derived from a biological process produced from agricultural waste not destined for the food chain. With a biological process, the waste materials once attacked by microorganisms generate a bio mass that is similar to plastic. After a series of processes to refine the composition, this bio mass becomes a material of the highest quality.
The material used for the Bio collection boasts exclusive properties of biodegradability in water and soil as certified by prestigious international institutes such as Vincotte Belgium and TUV Austria. Kartell are the first to use this top-quality, totally biodegradable material in furniture. As seen in the Componibili bio above.

Kartell use recycled material for certain designs. The recycled thermoplastic technopolymer used for these designs is derived from pure waste that is uncontaminated by other materials. This material allows us to recycle waste while guaranteeing the top-quality appearance and structural strength required of our finished products and reducing the emissions generated by the production process. The A.I. Chair above is made using this recycled material.

Produced for the good of the Planet – in full respect of sustainability combining design, technology and circular economy. 400 Iperespresso capsules are used to make one chair.
The latest product made with these coffee capules is the A.I. Console.

Kartell’s wood products are FSC certified. FSC certification is internationally recognised as the forest management system that has the most positive impact not only on forests but on the market and on people too. The FSC mark on our products tells you that the raw wood materials from which they are made are sourced through a supply chain that rigorously respects the environmental, social and economic standards required by the Forest Stewardship CouncilTM, the international NGO that has been promoting responsible forest management for over 25 years. Since the wood we use is a natural material, it may display differences in colour and grain.
