We’re writing to share an important update about the next chapter for Backhouse.
As customer preferences continue to evolve, more people are choosing to browse, research, and purchase furniture and lighting online. In response, we are strengthening our online experience while continuing to offer a carefully curated in-person experience from our Parnell showroom.
As part of this transition, our Allen Street showroom will close at the end of June. This has not been an easy decision, but it is an important step in our long-term growth strategy. Consolidating into one showroom will allow us to operate more efficiently, enhance our offering, and continue delivering the quality, design expertise and service you expect from Backhouse.
Wellington’s economy has faced significant headwinds, characterised by a challenging local business environment, reduced consumer spending, and an ongoing contraction in the core public sector.
So we are actively expanding into a larger market, and consolidating our operations into a single location which allows us to operate more efficiently, strengthen our offerings, and continue to deliver the quality and service you expect from us regardless of your location.
From our earliest beginnings in 1948 in Alpha Street to our move to Allen Street – Wellingtonians have been a valued part of our journey. We are incredibly grateful for the support, loyalty, and community that have helped shape Backhouse into what it is today.
We are also proud of the contribution we have made in celebrating design and creative endeavour in our Capital City.
