Born and raised in Taiwan, Yuchen grew up between sea and mountain, surrounded by nature’s soft contradictions, fluid and structured, wild and ordered. This early connection to natural forms continues to shape her work today, where every curve, texture, and material choice feels both intuitive and intentional.
After studying design in Taiwan and working locally, she sought broader creative horizons and found herself in Denmark, at the heart of Scandinavian minimalism. She first joined Normann Copenhagen as an intern, immersing herself in the brand’s experimental ethos. What began as a temporary chapter soon evolved into a defining one; Yuchen returned to Normann Copenhagen as a full-time designer, now creating some of the brand’s most compelling, quietly revolutionary pieces.
Yuchen Wu’s approach to design is distinctly narrative. She begins not with the form, but with a feeling she wants to translate into object. This sensitivity is evident in her Fyr Stool, a deceptively simple piece crafted from solid pine. Its name, the Danish word for pine, nods to the material’s honest strength, while the stool’s sculptural profile makes it a subtle showpiece, adaptable as seating, side table, or pedestal.
Her Flick Rug, hand-tufted from pure New Zealand wool, plays with perception. From a distance, its tonal palette blends like a landscape in motion; blurry, beautiful, alive. Step closer, and you discover intentional imperfection in each tuft, echoing the textures of nature. It’s a piece that doesn’t demand attention but rewards it.
Yuchen Wu’s Knit Armchair is a quiet statement in sustainable design with a tactile, knitted upholstery made from 100% recycled polyester. Designed with circularity in mind, its elegant form hides a thoughtful construction of detachable, recyclable components, reflecting Wu’s commitment to beauty, comfort, and responsible materiality.
Yuchen Wu represents a new wave of designers: globally minded, locally grounded, and emotionally driven. Her work speaks softly but with lasting resonance.
