Designer Spotlight. Studio Yolk

There’s something beautifully grounded about Studio Yolk — the creative partnership of Morten and Pernille Iben Linde. Based in Denmark, the pair work where design meets emotion, crafting objects that feel both expressive and deeply human. Their pieces have a calm presence, the sort that invites you to slow down and notice the little things.

Both trained as designers and psychotherapists, Morten and Pernille bring heart and head together in their work. Design, for them, isn’t just about how something looks or functions; it’s about giving shape to feeling.

Morten studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, where his dyslexia steered him towards a visual way of thinking. “Words never came easy,” he shares, “so I learned to speak through form.”

Growing up surrounded by European furniture rather than classic Danish pieces gave him a slightly outsider’s eye, something that still influences his take on design. His work leans into geometry and balance, with a focus on creating calm amid life’s busyness.

Pernille’s creative path winds between structure and emotion. She started in graphic design at the Royal Danish Academy before retraining as a psychotherapist, later returning to hands-on work with form and sculpture.

“Design is how I give form to my inner, wordless world,” she explains. Living with autism, she experiences the world through intense detail, textures, colours, surfaces, and that attention shines through in everything she makes.

Deko is a product of their collaboration, and one of the most loved pieces at Backhouse for its sculptural form, function and beauty.
